Carolina released Bouye (foot) on Monday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bouye missed the final four games of the 2021 campaign due to a foot injury, but there was optimism he could return before the end of the season, so health shouldn't interfere with his prospects on the open market. The 30-year-old cornerback could now be on track to suit up for his fourth different team in as many years.

Could be expendable
CBCarolina Panthers
February 27, 2022
The Panthers may opt to move on from Bouye this offseason, according to Joe Person of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Carolina drafted a pair of cornerbacks last season, including Jaycee Horn in the first round, and the Panthers also traded for another recent first-rounder at the position in CJ Henderson. With plenty of young talent in the secondary, the Panthers may value the $3.5 million in cap space they could create by cutting Bouye more than the veteran cornerback himself, especially because he'll be 31 next season and missed seven games in 2021, ending the season on IR due to a foot injury.

Bouye signed with the Panthers this offseason after playing just seven games last term due to a dislocated shoulder before being hit with a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drugs policy. The 29-year-old cornerback will need to serve two more games of that punishment to begin this season, but once cleared to play he could compete with Donte Jackson and Rashaan Melvin for the starting cornerback job opposite rookie first-rounder Jaycee Horn.
The Broncos opted to trade for Bouye this offseason rather than bring back Chris Harris or bid on several top free agents. Bouye has reportedly been a longtime favorite of coach Vic Fangio, but he followed up six interceptions and 18 passes defensed in 2017 with just two picks and 16 passes defensed combined in 2018 and 2019. Denver is counting on him to return to form as a legitimate top cornerback as there is little in the way of established depth at the position on the roster.
Bouye had only eight passes defensed and one interception in 13 games last season, though he still had 54 tackles (46 solo). The 28-year-old has been sidelined early in training camp with a hamstring injury, so it's worth watching his availability as Week 1 draws closer. Assuming he's healthy, Bouye and Jalen Ramsey should remain one of the better cornerback tandems in the league, though inexperienced safeties Jarrod Wilson and Ronnie Harrison leave a question mark on the back end that wasn't present in previous seasons.
The newcomer to Jacksonville last season put forth a fantastic 2017, posting 56 tackles and career highs with 18 passes defensed and six interceptions after spending his first four seasons in Houston. The soon-to-be 27-year-old and partner-in-crime Jalen Ramsey form one of the best cornerback duos in the NFL, forcing opposing offenses to pick their poison on the outside. Bouye and Ramsey are poised to be two of the top corners in the league once again, with the Jaguars elite defense returning all of their significant contributors from last season.
The Jaguars poached Bouye away from the division-rival Texans in free agency, and he'll step into a starting spot at cornerback opposite Jalen Ramsey. Bouye notched just one pick last season, but he registered 16 passes defended to go with 63 combined tackles.
Bouye had 59 tackles and a pick-six last season as a fill-in starter when injuries hit cornerbacks Jonathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson. His spot on this year's depth chart was impacted when Houston selected a cornerback -- Kevin Johnson -- in the first round of the 2015 draft.
Bouye played a minor role in the Texans' secondary in 2013, getting credit for two solo tackles before his season ended due to a hamstring injury. He's looking at a similar role entering the 2014 season, though it's not a certainty he sticks with the roster. The Texans like him and Bouye's showed good instincts defending passing routes.
